Play the Cracker Wrapper

 3-3-2003
I can play the cracker wrapper.  I bet you can too!  It's quite an easy instrument to learn, actually.  All you need is one of those little six packs of crackers - the kind you get from vending machines.  They have different flavors, like peanut putter between two orange crackers or cheese between two crackers, etc.

Anyway, I was eatin' some of those crackers in the car when I made the startling, groundbreaking discovery of the decade that after you eat a few of the crackers, you can sorta hum-while-blowing-air into the cracker wrapper, and it will make a vibrating noise!!  Sometimes you can even feel the vibrations if the wrapper's touching your chin.

Properly playing the cracker wrapper may require difficult technique, I admit, but I got it in no time at all.  To make the cracker wrapper a true musical instrument (and to sound fancier), change the pitch of your humming to change the sound the wrapper makes when it vibrates.  Also, I recommend eating all the crackers except one or two; that produces the best sound.

The cracker wrapper is a great instrument for multiple reasons: it's cheap, it's widely available (get one at your local vending machine!), it helps fill your tummy (with the crackers, don't eat the wrapper!!), it's disposable, it's plastic, it's kinda like a cheap kazoo, and it's a brand-new instrument!!

I gotta give a shout out to my sister Allison, who's birthday is today.  Happy Birthday Allison!!!
(hmmm...  maybe I should play "Happy Birthday" with a cracker wrapper)
