Off
The Chain
2-4-2003 My frat bros and I were having a rather important meeting. Our prez. asked me what I thought about a guy who's rushing. I used the words "off the chain" in my response. My fellow frat bros laughed at that, but I seriously couldn't think of a synonym to use besides "off the chain." I find myself using those three words so often (especially mentally), that they've come to mean something that I can't quite say with any other words. It's kind of like those phrases in some foreign languages that don't quite translate into a certain set of English words - that's how "off the chain" is for me. I've gotten used to using it so much that instead of thinking "off the chain" in my mind, I simply shorten it to "otc." Hey, that could be the name of a music group... and I'm bet they'd be off the chain! Sure, I guess different people may have different definitions for "off the chain," but when I'm the one speaking or thinking, I go by my definition. So if you notice me use it, please just try to figure out what I mean by the context I use it in. The Snod Words of the Day: off the chain - ummmmmm... like I said earlier in this article, I still can't really think of a synonym, but's it's still Off The Chain!! |
